If you are looking for a science project or are simply bored and looking for an activity, doing the infamous Mentos and Coke experiment is always fun. When you mix the candy and soda together, the result is an intense geyser-like eruption that shoots from the top of the bottle. While you can use any soda, Diet Coke works best because the unique shape of Coke bottles support the effect best. The nondiet version is also way stickier and harder to clean up.
Instructions
- 1
Put on a pair of safety goggles. Anyone else standing by to watch should also wear safety goggles.
2Remove the outer paper wrapper of a package of mint-flavored Mentos. Remove the foil that surrounds the candies and take three of them to use in the experiment. Unscrew the cap from a 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke.
3Set the bottle in a large, outside area and drop the three Mentos in the opening at the top of the bottle.
4Back away immediately after you have dropped the candies in. You have a little less than one second before the reaction will occur, and the soda will spurt like a fountain.
