For special events like weddings or class reunions you may have the desire to slim down to look your best. Good ideas are not always immediately initiated, however, and you now find yourself with just three days until the event. Because a pound of body fat equals 3500 calories, burning enough body fat through diet and exercise to make a visual difference is not advisable and probably not possible. Instead, for the greatest impact, you need to exercise moderately and limit your calorie intake, while lending your main focus to lowering sodium consumption and reducing bodily water retention.
Instructions
- 1
Cut back on your salt intake. Salt encourages your body to retain water and causes you to appear bloated.
2Stick to whole, unprocessed foods. Processed foods tend to carry large amounts of sodium and are calorie dense. Avoiding processed foods helps you to not just avoid sodium, but control the amount you take in. Unprocessed food has only trace amounts of sodium, so you can be certain when you are eating it that you are not taking in excessive salt that will hamper your ability to slim down. Strive to consume under 1500 mg daily.
3Consume water instead of juice or soda. Juice and soda contain sodium and calories, sticking with water helps you avoid both. Water helps purge your body of sodium and, because you are not taking in excessive amounts of sodium, you have no risk of retaining the water your are consuming. Try to drink half to one ounce of water for every pound of body weight and drink it throughout the day, not all at once.
4Limit your calorie intake, but do not starve yourself. Starving yourself drops your metabolism greatly, as your body anticipates famine conditions and converts to levels of calorie burning that will leave you with little energy and fewer calories being burned. If you stick with unprocessed foods like fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meat, you should find that it is difficult to over eat because the food is filling, but not as calorie dense as its processed counterparts.
5Engage in moderate exercise. Moderate exercise will burn calories, but also keep your metabolism steady as you lower your calorie intake. Excessive exercise can cause large calorie burns but, when combined with limited calorie intake, an increased appetite as well. Look to exercise at a level that is in the middle of your range of capability and to eat before and after to keep your energy up and your appetite in control. Moderate exercise and the resulting sweat is also useful in lowering your sodium levels.
