Whole Body Detox Diet

Whole body detox diets are very beneficial for total rejuvenation, and bring optimal health and well-being. While many detox diets are the same, it is important to remember to take in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to ensure the body gets what it needs during a detox. A detox is meant to cleanse and purify, so staying as healthy as possible will make the diet advantageous.

Foods to avoid

On many detox diets, the foods to avoid are usually the same. Refrain from alcohol and caffeine, as well as foods that are refined, processed or high in sugar or fat. If the toxins cannot be taken care of through the body's natural purifiers of the colon, kidneys and liver, they usually end up on the skin, leading to oily skin, clogged pores or acne. During the whole body detox diet, avoiding these foods will make the process more beneficial later on, especially when the detox is over.

Foods to consume

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables on the whole body detox to cleanse the body both internally and externally. Fruits and vegetables have high fiber content, which helps eliminate waste and toxins from the organs. Because many valuable enzymes are destroyed with heat during the cooking process, try to eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as possible to retain nutritional value. Removing toxins from the body also helps promote increased energy and clear skin. Additional foods and drinks to consume on a whole body detox are at least 64 ounces of water each day, whole grains, seeds and nuts, and organic foods and drinks.

Skin Health

While doing any type of detox, it is important to remember skin health. Many toxins from within the body will be released onto the skin, so it is important to take many hot showers, or visit the steam room or sauna to promote sweating. Sweat is a natural process that helps expel toxins, but it is also essential to wipe them off the skin throughout the day. Brush or wipe down the skin to remove toxin buildup and wipe the face with a soft cloth. Take vitamins each day to help with skin health, including Vitamin E for antioxidant support, Vitamin C for collagen renewal, Vitamin B12 for stress support and Omega-3 oils for healthy, vibrant skin.
