Known as the soda and Mentos eruption, mixing soda and Mentos is both a fun backyard pastime and an exciting science experiment. With household ingredients, anyone can make a powerful eruption outdoors. This interaction takes place due to tiny pits that cover the surface of each Mentos candy. When submerged in the effervescent soda, a tiny bubble is allowed to form in each pit, causing a spectacular ejection of foam from the top of the bottle.

How to Mix Soda and Water
- 1
Clear a space of about 20 square feet in an outdoor area, and place your bottle of soda in the center of the area.
2Place the end of the PVC pipe over the top of the bottle of soda, so that the Mentos will slide directly into the bottle.
3Open the package of Mentos, and dump them all at once into the PVC pipe. Immediately lift away the PVC pipe and step away from the bottle as foam erupts from the top of the bottle.
